Arnolt-Bristol Tool Kit

The kit is detailed in the spares manual. The part numbers are Bristol part numbers. Apparently Bristol sourced from a number of manufacturers, including Lucas and King Dick.

Abingdon Spares (abingdon@sover.net) can supply the following: (location New Hampshire, USA)

N 707096 inspection lamp (This was not part of the Arnolt kit, but was supplied with other Bristol cars and is authentic)
N 705541 tool roll (same as black MG tool roll)
N600311 Lockheed tin-in bleeder tube
N 600211 adjustable spanner (Lucas: same as prewar Jag)
N 600231 pliers (apparently sourced from a number of suppliers)
N 600221 screwdriver ("dagger" style: same as MG TD)
N600321 bleeder wrench (this is a double ended box wrench: one end must be 1/4 and I suppose the other was 7/16)
N600261 spanner 7/16 x 1/2
N600251 spanner 5/16 x 3/8
N600241 spanner 3/16 x 1/4
N600130 tommy bar
N600061 dist. screw driver and gauge
N600111 tappet feeler gauge (They supply.012 or .019: the .019 works for Arnolt spark gap, but they don't have an .002)

They priced this all together at $495, which is a bit steep.

The In-Point (VHC@The In-Point) in Australia makes its own reproductions and can supply the following:

Screwdriver
Spanner set
Pliers
Distributor spanner
Tappet gauge (but supply only a 0'12, 0.19, 0.15, 0.17)
Toolroll (same as black canvas MG T series)
Tommy bar

Hal Rogers can supply a repro TF Jack and handles as well as tire irons (not part of the listed Bristol spares, but an authentic item...) hdrsons@iamerica.net

I purchased this jack and it is serviceable and indistinguishable from the original.

Robb Nortier (rnortier@iserv.net) www.britishtool.com (location USA) can supply:
tool roll
pliers
spanners
screwdriver
tommy bar

I am still looking to source:

N. 600011 plug spanner (supposedly same as prewar Jag), for 5/8 plugs
N. 600121 cylinder head box spanner (this one is truly scarce),
N. 600161 cylinder head spanner,

starting handle

(Note on dimensions of the handle:> Yes, my 401 has a starting handle. I cannot say for certain that it was the one which originally came with the car, since I have two which are almost identical, but it works.

wheel brace. (Note that the wheel brace supplied by Bristol with 401's is identical to the MG Y: the one shown in the Arnolt spares manual no one seems to recognize...any ideas? Note that I have seen a photo of an Arnolts with the MGY brace, so it may have been supplied alternately )

The Bristol cylinder head spanner can be substituted for a S wrench metric 13/14 box end/box end......Snap on part # S5911 but it needs a bit of metal ground out. I can send a digital photo if you think anyone would be helped by this information. Of course, not suitable for a concourse quality tool kit, but it does work.

Snap on also supplies a BS set of combination wrenches that are suitable for really doing work on the car...Moss sells a King Dick set that are chrome and a lot cheaper than the Snap on, but you get what you pay for.
